Vintage posters as ads
Before television and other modern media, advertising was more like art than business and technology. Many famous artists used their talent for creating posters that today are being regarded as masterpieces. This wasn't necessarily the case those days. This is extremely typical of art, the recognition comes often late(r), in many times too late. I have no idea if the artists harnessed for advertising took these jobs as art projects or just as a way to earn their living. Maybe it was a little bit both. Anyway, the vintage ad posters shown here are great examples of the style of living and consuming of that era. The most important target group was of course the upper class because they had the money and desire to spend it. The sophisticated mood in these posters takes you right to the beginning of the 20th century. Doesn't it?
